Warren County Modernization and Connectivity Plan for Multi-Use Trails Wayfinding System

Glens Falls, Lake George, Fort Edward

CLIENT Warren County

The Warren County Department of Parks and Recreation operates a multi-modal trail system. Trails in and secondary to Glens Falls are primarily bicycle and walking trails that have been developed over the years by various municipalities and operated as a connected but not graphically coordinated system.

In an effort to modernize the trail system, the County retained a multi-disciplinary design team to improve the systems connectivity among the existing trails, add trail heads and user facilities and develop a coordinated wayfinding system.

Studio A, as a member of the design team, was responsible for developing the wayfinding system. As inventory and assessment of all of the existing various signage components along the trails was performed including their conditions and messages and a needs plan was prepared by Studio A for a coordinated trail signage system. The wayfinding program includes trail and plan identification, rules and regulations, safety warnings, and trail user services available at points along the trails in a coordinated graphic system.

Studio A prepared a plan locating all signs, messages to be conveyed in each sign, and the coordinated graphic design for all signs including construction detailing.
