The clients’ goal was to develop a four-season vacation residence on Lake George in Upstate New York. Values pertinent to the design, were to incorporate indigenous materials, both hardscape and softscape, in a manner reflective of the existing natural landscape as well as a site design which respects the existing natural conditions and provides outdoor amenities. The site afforded significant views of the lake which were highly valued by the client. The primary residence was sited to allow for “filtered views” of the lake to be developed while maintaining shoreline vegetation. Exposed bedrock was incorporated into the project.
The site program consisted of a lower-level patio at a walkout basement, circulation to the shoreline, a swimming pool and pool house, cowboy fire pit cauldron with seating, access to the boathouse, tennis courts and pavilion, stormwater management, vehicular circulation, and extensive landscaping. All plant materials specified were indigenous to the region.
