Stuyvesant Plaza is a regional shopping center in Albany, NY, developed as an “outdoor” plaza surrounding a large parking lot. It was purchased by a Boston-area retailer seeking to upgrade its image and create an enhanced shopping environment. One such upgrade was to re-purpose a small outdoor space for passive uses and events.
Studio A developed a site plan to accommodate shoppers’ daily activities, including outdoor eating as a form of passive relaxation. It also presented a “flexible” design that can accommodate a variety of events and uses, such as outdoor group gatherings, parties, and celebrations, as well as serving as the center for the plaza’s Christmas Tree and other Holiday displays.
Facilities include seating for casual dining, park benches, children’s play activities, string lighting above, landscaping, and a combination of artificial turf and hard surface paving.
