Studio A is a member of the consulting team designing and implementing a Capital Improvement Program for the high school/middle school campus. One of the components of the program is to restore a 1–2-acre pond at the site’s main entrance which is a visual feature and provides both passive recreation and educational/interpretive uses.
The pond has deteriorated in water quality as a result of excessive algae growth and low oxygen content. Studio A, as landscape architect and civil engineers on the project team, developed a dredging plan to deepen the pond. Fringe wetlands exist as well as a healthy stand of cattails which support a wide variety of songbirds (red-winged black bird breeding habitat, etc.). The dredging plan was designed to maintain the cattail, stand as well as fringe wetlands while increasing water depth in the center of the pond. Two surface aerators are planned (floating fountains) to assist in the maintenance of water quality and oxygen level content.
Construction was completed in the Fall of 2025.
