The Sun Castle Resort on the west side of Lake George includes the Edward Morse Shepard Mansion, Erlowest, which is considered one of the most beautiful examples of the “Queen Ann style gilded age” structures on the lake.
Now incorporated into the Sun Castle Resort, Erlowest includes an upscale restaurant, wedding/meeting venue with grand ball room, several guest quarters and a grand porch overlooking the lake. Sun Castle slso includes 65 cottages for short-term rentals, a swimming pool, boat docks and lakeside amenities.
Studio A was commissioned to develop a Master Plan to increase guest amenities at the waterfront, add recreational facilities and diversify the guest accommodations to add to the resorts attraction.
The design includes a complete upgrade of the waterfront including promenades, fire pits, pedestrian connectivity, landscaping and lighting. A major overlook is designed proximate to and lakeside of the Erlowest banquet facility. Twenty new cabin units, 24 new guest rooms in the Boutique Hotel with indoor swimming pool, recreation area with tennis/ pickle ball courts and basketball, 2-level parking structure, new maintenance building and yard and employee housing for 40 is included in the plan.
The site plan also includes an aggressive landscaping plan, “green infrastructure” stormwater improvements and increased wastewater treatment facilities.
